ROAD MOVIES - EUROPE

MITCH:
Having a TV in the touring van can be a mixed blessing. At first, the stereo didn't work. That gave a few days of quiet. Some people used their discmans and it gave me some space to work on lyrics. The person with the biggest gripe was our driver, Christian. He had to haul it everywhere so it made sense to fix the problem.
Our opportunity came when we picked up the rest of our late arriving
equipment and merch at the airport in Muenster. This was a slow process in which Christian had to sweet talk the customs officials into letting us take our stuff on a Sunday. A few of us stuck it out in the van, mostly gassing each other out. Finally, the ever efficient Dan checked the fuses and did a quick switch. Eureka! Music was back in our lives! But now we argued over what CDs to hear and how shit most of them were. As you can imagine, it was impossible to agree.
There was also a DVD player in the van and our driver had the good sense to rent a few movies from the place where we got the vehicle. Here's a list of some of the gems that we got to view.
Army Of Darkness
The Kentucky Fried Movie
Lost Souls
The Great Escape
Amelie
disc 2 of the Little Britain series
Austin Powers 2
Heavenly Creatures (dubbed in German)
Studio One (doc.)
and a couple of specials on Northern Soul artists.
Actually, the doesn't look as bleak as I thought it was. Not as interesting, either.

LORRAINE: I'm really happy that my van here has no working radio... That way there are never arguements about what to listen to (haha)... Mind you, last summer in the states we bought these computer speakers and a power inverter so we could plug in a discman while some of the drivers who need music were taking a turn... Looking at that list of movies we had in Europe brings back memories... and also makes me realize how much "entertainment" we actually did have in the van... To be honest, I still feel that we lost out on some quality moments together, but then, I am a big fan of hanging out together, and talking about fascinating as well as inane things...!!! Amelie is such a cute movie!!! and Little Britain was hilarious! The Studio One documentary was really interesting, but production values nil (hard to read titling, etc.) Lost Souls is in the running for my list of "worst movie dialogue ever"... haha
